DRM-free iTunes , EMI++
Kudos to EMI for their deal with iTunes to offer DRM-free songs on iTunes. It seems Steve Job's has also put his money where his mouth is.
What's amazing is that it's taken this long for the big boys in the music industry to realise that DRM is flawed by the laws of economics and physics. Other companies like eMusic realised this a long time ago.
No matter how they dress it up as a "premium" service, this hopefully signals the end of DRM protected media. RIP DRM.

All this "DRM is dead" is
All this "DRM is dead" is rubbish.
EMI, the 4th biggest music label, which up until recently was in merger/takeover talks with/by TimeWarner, is doing it to raise flagging sales, and thats it.
Steve Jobs is not risking *anything* by doing this, if the venture goes titsup nothing is lost and he can be the "good guy" and blame the industry (again).
The biggest music labels aren't budging on DRM yet, and won't do for months, perhaps even years.
And the worst DRM offenders, the movie industry, are in no way backing down from DRM in the form of CSS for DVDs and AACS for HD-DVDs.
DRM is not dead, and it won't be for many many many years to come.
